Peter sees ashes drift down from the sunless sky, landing on a melted lamp post. He continued to walk through the snow-filled road. His drones fly around him, scanning the area, searching for anything useful.
If not for his suit, he knew that his body would get frostbite as he had been walking for three hours. His base is deep in the middle of Cricklewood, and he walks to the south, searching for anything interesting.
So far, there is nothing other than snow and radioactive ashes. His Nanite is going north, and he is going south. He needs to release another wave of Nanites soon, but he will send them south this time.
*Beep*
He snaps from his thoughts when his scanner gets something. He follows where the source is coming from and finds himself in front of the King's Cross Station.
"Make a deep scan around the area."
"Affirmative"
He waits for the VI to be done scanning, and after a couple of minutes, the VI gives him the report.
"It is an unknown energy coming from the planet itself."
"Oh? Is it some kind of unknown energy not in our database?"
"Yes. There is a chunk of the same energy inside the station."
"Really? Show me."
Peter watches his drone fly inside the building and through the station. After a few seconds, they arrive in front of a pillar with the numbers 9 and 10 on the side. However, what catches his attention is the massive portal in the middle of the pillar.
It shows him a portal to another place that is not the King's Cross.
"What am I seeing? Scan the other side."
At his command, the drone enters the portal and starts scanning. After a few seconds, Peter says.
"What do you find?"
"The gateway connects two places. The energy bridges the gap in space to connect two places. The other side is full of the same energy as the one creating this gap."
"Go around that place and check any landmarks or anything that we can use as a Landmark."
Peter watches as his drones fly out of the station in the middle of nowhere. It doesn't take long before one of the drones encounters a red train in the middle of the track. He controls the drone and gets near it.
It does not take long before he finds his answer.
"Hogwarts Express."
His mind works at a very fast pace as he just realizes that the world he is in is not as mundane as he thought it would be.
"If this is a magical world, there is a chance that people will still survive."
He mutters as he widens his eyes. He doesn't know how magic works and doesn't want to test if his tech will be broken if he gets too much exposure to magic. He remembers that magic in this world does not work well with technology.
With a thought, he recalls all the drones and decides to continue south.
He will continue his exploration to the edge of the River Thames. However, he will make sure to use his scanner to its full power. Without wasting any more time, the drones that come off his suit fly spread out through the street while his Forgewing and Earthshaper follow him.
These two will be the ones who are scanning deep underground. It can scan up to 250 meters underground. The smaller drones can scan up to 100 meters deep underground as long as they hover up to 3 meters above ground.
However, he does not find any survivors, even with all the full power of his drones and techs. The longer he walks the street, the more depressed he becomes. There is not a single soul in the area, and he only found corpses of people who died from radiation and the blast of the nuclear bomb.
He knows that there will be corpses, but he never thought there would be this many. The corpses of old, young, and even toddlers litter the street. He makes a note in his mind that he will return and give them a proper burial. That is the least he can do to their bodies.
Peter continues to walk through the corpse-filled street as his hope slowly diminishes. However, something unexpected happened.
It is a ping from one of the drones that fly ahead. It finds something deep underground. It does not know what it was, but it shows that at least forty people are staying underground.
Without wasting any more time, Peter starts running. His suit enhances his strength and lets him run as fast as a car. It does not take him long to arrive in front of a ruin of the British Museum.
Its once majestic architecture is now nothing but rubble. He runs toward where one of the drones stops, and after a few seconds, she sees it stop above a hatch on the ground.
"Forgewing, do a deep scan."
Peter watches as the Forgewing scans through the underground, and he can see red spots in front of the screen. The program tells him that all of them are humans. It also tells him about the energy around the bunker, the same energy around the pillar in King's Cross.
He is about to open the hatch, but his VI says something before he can do anything.
"I will not recommend it. It will do the people underneath no good, for the radiation will kill them."
Peter stops his hand and pulls it back. He takes a deep breath and mutters.
"Right… You are right."
He takes another deep breath and decides to return to his base. He needs to do a few things before he helps these people. The first one is something that lets him create a safe environment for those people so that he can take them to his base safely.
Without wasting any more time, he ran back home. He looks at the clock and clicks his tongue. It is already 7 PM. There is no way of knowing the time when the sun is blocked. He cannot complete the tech now, but at least he can create a foundation for tomorrow's tech.
"Just wait for me."
