Arriving back at the house, Tanner immediately notices the guards stationed around.
He marches toward the door, knowing full well that he still doesn't have a solid answer for Jess.. at least not one he can prove. But he does have a lead now, and that gives him a small sense of direction.
Pushing the door open, he steps inside. Kyle approaches him quickly, relief washing over his face.
"I almost went out looking for you," he says, exhaling as though he's been holding his breath. His voice is low, barely above a whisper.
Tanner glances at the couch. Jess is there, asleep with the baby nestled in his arms.
"We fed the baby, and he fell asleep again," Kyle says, answering before Tanner can even ask. "But Jess refused to eat anything."
Tanner shifts his focus back to Kyle and takes in the fatigue on his face.
"What about you?" he asks, noticing how drained he looks.
"Not yet. Did you make it?" Kyle asks, his voice filled with anticipation.
