Chapter 48 - HHES: Chapter 48

Loki went outside. He planned to register matches against Gidō and Sadaso.

"What? They left the Heaven Arena a month ago and canceled their registrations," he was told.

Loki was stunned. They were supposed to fight Gon and Killua! Why did they leave?

He checked other fighters; those not currently competing weren't at the arena. Only one fighter had a match in fifteen days. Even if he didn't come, the arena would schedule a match. Only Loki was registered. He'd only fight himself.

Loki returned to his room, gloomy. He thought this mission would be easy, but it was difficult. These people lacked courage, running away without competing.

Besides those forced to compete, Loki had one choice: fake matches. Only fake matches would quickly get him ten wins.

"Fake matches. The Heaven Arena will love a fighter who does that," Loki said, standing up.

Gon was practicing Shu, reaching 199 chops. He heard "fake matches."

Rip! His paper was cut by the blade.

"Fake matches? What are you talking about, Loki?" Gon asked. Killua also looked at Loki curiously.

Loki realized that, including Gon and Killua, he only needed four more wins.

"Gon, register to fight me!" Loki said.

"What? Why fight you? I can't beat you."

It was a sure loss. Why compete?

"Just fight me."

Gon looked at Loki, then Killua.

"Why? Gon can't beat you. Is this necessary?" Killua asked, wanting to protect Gon.

"Why?" Loki said, thinking. "Gon, I told you the Hunter Exam wasn't about passing, but about learning Nen, right?"

They nodded.

"This is your final test. Fight me; if I'm satisfied, you pass and become a Hunter."

Gon scratched his head.

Killua frowned. "You said 'fake matches.' You just want a win, right?"

"Gon, fight me. If you pass, I'll make Hisoka fight you."

Mentioning Hisoka, Gon agreed immediately.

Loki looked at Killua. Killua stepped back. "I won't fight you. I can't beat you; it's pointless."

Loki looked at Gon. "Hisoka."

Gon said, "Killua, please."

"Gon…"

After registering Gon, Loki planned to negotiate with the Heaven Arena after getting two wins from Gon and Killua.

The next day, Loki fought Gon. The match lasted three seconds. The audience and referee were stunned. The match ended as soon as it began. Gon, cooperating, was knocked off the ring by Loki. He wasn't injured, but Loki won.

Five wins! The afternoon match with Killua was the same. Loki had six wins.

Killua and Gon, dejected, followed Loki to register Gon and Hisoka for a match. Loki had agreed to Hisoka's Yorknew City plan; letting Hisoka fight Gon gave Hisoka no reason to refuse. He wanted to fight Gon anyway.

The Yorknew City auction was on September 1st; there was still time. Hisoka needed amusement.

The next morning, Gon and Hisoka fought. The previous two matches, lasting six seconds total, had frustrated the audience. Killua heard people say:

"If this match lasts only a few seconds, I'm done watching."

"Me too. I didn't see the fighters yesterday."

"At least you saw the ring. I looked down to get a drink, and the match was over."

Killua said nothing.

Bang! Hisoka slid backward, leaving scratches on the ground. Gon landed a punch, smiling.

Months of Ren training had incredibly increased Gon's aura, faster than in the original story. Having Loki as a goal might have sped up Gon and Killua's progress. Gon was almost as strong as when he trained with Biscuit Krueger. He also mastered Ken,, and Shu. Loki's training with paper and blades had strengthened their aura, like hitting rocks strengthens Enhancement types.

"Good job, Gon," Killua said, impressed. Gon was simple-minded but had good ideas in battle.

"Hisoka was careless," Killua said. Hisoka was stronger, but he was careless; he knew he was stronger and didn't dodge.

Loki smiled at Killua. 'Careless?' With Hisoka's reflexes, even with a feint, Hisoka could have dodged or blocked Gon's attack. But he didn't. He let Gon hit him.

If Loki hadn't fought Hisoka, he'd think the same as Killua. But after fighting Hisoka, Loki knew Hisoka was far stronger.

The referee gave Gon one point. The score was 1-0.

"Amazing punch! Gon hit Hisoka! The referee gave Gon one point!"

The crowd cheered wildly. No one expected a kid to hit Hisoka.

Hisoka straightened up. His face was swollen, blood dripping from his mouth. But his Nen and gaze were steady. However, killing intent filled his eyes as he looked at Gon. Gon was almost ripe.

They faced each other. Gon walked towards Hisoka. Hisoka hesitated, then walked towards Gon.

Gon took out his number 44 tag and gave it to Hisoka. Hisoka took it. The audience was confused.

Loki smiled and left.

"Not watching?" Killua asked.

"No. There's nothing to see," Loki said. He'd come to see how Gon differed from the original. Gon's punch showed his strength; Loki didn't need to watch further.
