Chapter 15 - Choice

Raindrops slammed into Morvian's face at speed as he ran around the giant. His intermittent breathing was drowned out by Elias's growls as the huge blade slammed into his body.

The giant gripped the rope tighter and pulled his prey sharply toward him. So hard that Elias flew straight toward him like a rag rag.

The giant clenched his fist and raised it to the air, aiming for the flying bony body.

Morvian's aimed shot, however, managed to blind the overgrowth in one eye.

A deafening roar, more like the howling of a hurricane, swept through the village. And a terrifying fist flew past Elias, smashing into the ground and tearing it apart.

Elias fell to the ground, slipping a couple of meters on the wet ground.

Morvian quickly ran up to him while his opponent was disoriented. Starting to help pull the hook out of his body.

Elias gave a muffled growl of pain, and the blood from his body never stopped gushing from his body like a fountain.

Morvian smiled nervously, tugging as hard as he could on the metal blade.

"Calm down... it'll be something to tell the grandchildren."

Elias apparently didn't appreciate his comrade's humor much, continuing to growl and dig his claws into the ground.

Despite his outward terror, the pleasant voice in Morvian's head remained ordinarily calm.

'Of course I will tell you... if we get out of here.'

Morvian wiped the blood from his face, smearing it even more on his skin. Then he yanked with as much force as this body was capable of.

The blade finally gave in and came out of the bone monster's body, falling to the ground with the new blood.

Elias slowly sat up, clutching the huge wound on his body, wheezing quietly.

'It's not as scary as it looks... I guess.'said the monster in Morvian's head.

The latter looked grimly at the gaping hole in his comrade's body and how blood was rapidly draining from his body.

It was a miracle he still hadn't died from such a wound.

He could have healed him with scarabs if he had mana.

The thoughts in his head were rapidly changing one after another as Morvian thought about what to do next.

He purposely didn't create a voice link between himself and Elias so that he wouldn't hear his thoughts. Which were quite grim.

'Abandon him here and run away myself?'

His fingers involuntarily clenched into fists as he imagined abandoning a comrade.

A comrade?

They had realized from the beginning that their alliance was only a necessity. Though they hadn't said it out loud.

After the ordeal, their paths would have diverged and their fates would not be linked.

So why hasn't he run away yet?

Because subconsciously he was already attached to him because of the fact that he had saved him?

Morvian's lips were hiding, as was his heart inside.

'What nonsense, we need to get out of here.'

Morvian cast one last glance at the dying Elias and turned away from him, glaring at the giant.

Several lightning bolts simultaneously illuminated everything around him and Morvian saw his opponent in all his glory.

Hastily sewn pieces of flesh of different colors glistened from the rain and disproportionate limbs tore the air. As the giant raged in pain.

Morvian looked at the bloody crater where the monster's eye used to be.

Thoughts were once again swirling through the boy's mind as he studied the creature's body.

'It's a zombie, isn't it...'

His eyes widened as he realized exactly what kind of creature it was.

Morvian cast a quick glance at Elias, assessing its condition.

Blood continued to flow from the woolly body, despite his attempts to stop it. Elias himself, however, could still hold out.

'He has somewhere around a couple minutes left. I need to get some mana in that time. And I know where I can get it from.' he thought as he stared at the giant.

The giant seemed to have recovered from his wound and looked at the couple a dozen meters away from him.

The golden-haired girl began to walk slowly toward him, clutching a sheath knife. And eyes the color of the sun stared back at the dead stare.

Another bolt of lightning struck one of the houses and set it on fire.

The flames consumed the wood at an alarming rate, despite the raging rain. Spilling over to other buildings.

Morvian kept walking as his thoughts continued their course as well.

'Zombies are not living creatures and therefore cannot generate the mana they need to live on their own. That's why they need a constant boost that can't be placed in their body. After all, the combination of life and flesh should not be interrupted by mechanisms.''

Morvian stared at the hideous giant for a second, then began searching for the house from which it had crawled out.

Finding its wreckage, Morvian began frantically searching for some sort of installation.

Lightning lit up the world again and he saw a metal box standing in the wreckage of the building. However, it was behind the body of a creature that clearly wouldn't let him through so easily.

'Bingo.'

A smile graced the boy's face, after which he stared at his opponent once more.

The giant roared and a stream of drool flew out of his mouth, mixing with the rain.

Morvian's heart pounded frantically because of his irrationality and the impropriety of further action.

But his fingers clutched the knife and cutlass tighter and tighter, and his legs prepared to run.

A strong wind blew over the fiery village, fanning the flames harder and whipping the golden hair into the air.

Morvian looked into the giant's dead eyes and spoke with ease.

"Let's kill you."
