Chapter 20 - Who was this man?

"I saw the hand so... You don't have to cover it up. Even if you can't see, you must've heard their voice, right? Who was it? Who was it that pushed you out the window?"

Lilah bowed her head. Why was this person so concerned?

He was a stranger, was he not?

He had a heart she had never seen before in their household and an unrecognizable and manly voice, so she was sure he wasn't a worker in his household.

Then, was he a guest who had come to the birthday celebration?

But most of the people who came were Dawn's connection and they all hated her. Someone like that wouldn't be this polite to her or even help her.

But what if he was doing this out of evil intentions?

No, with a heart like that, she doubted it.

Then, this person was someone who wasn't on Dawn's side and didn't know who she was either.

Then, would he help her?

But what power did he have?

There was no way an ordinary human being would agree to help her against the vampires.

"If I told you, you wouldn't believe me." Lilah said, trying to get off him.

She had been rude to stay on top of him for so long, but then, when he felt she was trying to get off, he subconsciously held on tighter.

"Um, excuse me..."

"Go ahead." He said. "Call a name. Even if it's your father, I don't see why I shouldn't believe you. After all, you're the one who almost died. Would you rather return to the household and be once again thrust into death's paw, or would you rather call a name now and ask for help?"

"What... What do you mean?" Lilah asked. "I should ask for help from you? Can you..." Her hands began to tremble. "Can you help me?"

"I can." He said. "But you'll have to ask first."

"Even if it's something you can't handle?" Lilah asked, pursing her lips as her heart began to grow greedy.

He was genuinely trying to help, she could feel it. So, she wanted to use his help to get out of the mess she was in.

That is... If he was willing to go through anything just to help her.

"Lady, there's nothing I can't handle." He said confidently, and she could tell he was not lying. "So, all you need to do is ask for my help, and I'll help you?"

Lilah felt her breath roughly caught up in her throat and she gulped.

Who was this man?

Why he, whom she had never met before, agreed to help her no matter what, she did not know. But she was going to use it. Use his help and get out of here.

"The person who pushed me is my twin sister, Dawn." She said and he frowned. "She hates me. She's hated me for a very long time, and even more so recently. It's as if she never stops boiling in rage whenever she sees me."

"Why does she hate you even more recently?" He asked and she paused.

"It's because our family suddenly started treating me nicely. She hates that they allow me to eat at the dining table now and take care of me."

In other words, they've never been this good to her and only started treating her as part of the family recently.

What an awful family.

"Mister, will you please take me away from here?" She asked, her eyes suddenly tearing up. "I feel I've held on long enough. Now I... I'm at my limit. So please, just... Steal me away."

He paused. Her request for help was bolder than the lines on her face.

He liked it.

She was ready to throw herself into the arms of even a stranger, so long she could receive help. Whether they were capable of helping her or not, she did not know but she was raking a gamble.

It only goes to show how horrible her circumstances were, right?

If she had been neglected, bullied, and, in the end, pushed out the window to her death, then she deserved to break free, desperately pleading to be stolen out of the cage she had been locked in.

"Steal," he repeated the words with a rather cold tone as he took off one hand from her waist and gently grabbed a few locks of her beautiful hair. "That's a very powerful word, lady. Are you sure of this? Do you know what you're asking of me?"

Lilah pursed her lips and nodded.

It would be better if they ran away from there so that the vampire would never find them. He would never know who had taken her away and so they couldn't chase after them.

It was the perfect plan. It's better than waiting for the Lycan King, who might not agree to help her.

"Please," she muttered, tears streaming down and falling on his coat. "Anyway is better than here."

Her words broke his heart and though it might've been an impulsive thinking, since he was swayed by her tears, he made up his mind.

His subordinates, though lazy, would've asked him to do a little more research on the situation before coming up with a situation, but they weren't here. And he didn't have time to do said research, so he acted out of his own gut feeling.

"In that case, I'll help you." He said and then sat up, holding her so she wouldn't fall off. "Can you stand?" He asked, and she tried, but her legs had gone numb.

"No," she said, pitifully.

"It's okay. I'll carry you." He said and stood up first before pulling her up into his arms.

Lilah's heart raced.

Was this it? Was she finally getting out of his house?

She wondered if they would run away from there but she had no idea he was carrying her inside the house.

This man had no idea what she had gone through or the current situation related to her and the vampires but since he made up his mind, he was going to act on it and stick with it till the end.

He has decided to take care of this girl.

"Lilah?"

Lilah heard her father's voice and her heart skipped.

Why was her father there? Wait, where were they?

"Who is that carrying my sister?" She heard Patrick's voice and her body began to shake.

What was this? Did he carry her back to her family?

But he said he would help her, so why?

Her body trembled and the man holding her interpreted it in his own terms.

'So, her name is Lilah. How beautiful. But it seems she's scared of her family.' He thought, his gaze falling coldly. 'Just how long have you suffered?' he wondered and then looked back at them.

There were three men in the living room and while two of them were humans, possibly her family, the last one was a vampire.

How rotten the air had become with his sheer presence?

"Who are you and what have you done with my daughter?" Mister Anderson asked and this man felt it was time to introduce himself.

If he did then the girl in his arms would know that there was nothing to worry about and that he was capable of taking care of her.

"Hello, I've come to inform you that I'll be taking your daughter with me, and your consent isn't needed. I just dropped by to let you know out of courtesy." He said, shocking all of them. "And... you don't have to worry, I'll be taking good care of her from now on."
