Chapter 1 - HOME COMING

The sun was setting over the small town of Willow Creek, casting a warm orange glow over the quaint streets and homes. Elma stepped out of her car, taking a deep breath of the familiar air. It had been years since she'd been back, but the scent of blooming jasmine and fresh-cut grass instantly transported her to a time when life was simpler.

As she gazed up at her family's old Victorian house, a mix of emotions swirled inside her. Excitement to be home, nostalgia for memories past, and a hint of anxiety about facing the people she'd left behind. Elma's eyes drifted to the neighboring house, where a familiar figure was tinkering with his motorcycle in the driveway.

Their eyes met, and for a moment, time stood still. Liam's gaze locked onto hers, his expression unreadable. Elma's heart skipped a beat as she felt the spark of a connection she thought she'd long buried .

Elma's legs felt like lead as she stood frozen, her eyes locked on Liam's. It had been five years since their messy breakup, and she'd thought she'd never have to face him again. Yet, here they were, in the same driveway, with the same undeniable chemistry.

Liam's expression slowly shifted from neutral to a hint of surprise, and then, a small smile played on his lips. Elma's heart fluttered as she felt a rush of memories: laughter, late-night conversations, and stolen kisses.

As Liam approached her, Elma's mind went blank. What do you say to the person who once knew you better than anyone, but now feels like a stranger?

"Hey," Liam said, his deep voice sending shivers down her spine. "Welcome back."

Elma forced a smile, trying to play it cool. "Hey."

They stood there, awkwardly silent, until Liam broke the tension. "How long are you staying?"

"I'm back for good," Elma replied, the words feeling both liberating and daunting.

Jack's eyes narrowed slightly, his gaze searching hers. "Everything okay?"

Elma hesitated, unsure how much to reveal. "Just needed a change of pace," she said vaguely.

The silence that followed was filled with unspoken questions and unresolved emotions. Elma wondered if coming back home had been a mistake. But as she looked into Liam's eyes, she felt an inexplicable sense of belonging.
