Chapter 5 - NEW BEGINNING

As Elma and Liam's relationship continued to blossom, they found themselves lost in each other's eyes. They would spend hours talking, laughing, and exploring the town, rekindling their old flame.

But just as things were starting to look up, Elma's ex-boyfriend, Alex, showed up in town. He had heard about Elma's return and was determined to win her back.

Elma was taken aback by Alex's sudden appearance. She hadn't expected him to show up, and she wasn't sure how to react.

Liam, sensing Elma's unease, took her hand and pulled her close. "Hey, what's wrong?" he asked, his voice filled with concern.

Elma hesitated, unsure of how to explain the situation. "It's Alex," she said finally. "My ex-boyfriend. He just showed up out of nowhere."

Liam's expression turned serious. "What does he want?" he asked.

Elma shook her head. "I don't know. But I think he wants to get back together."

Liam's eyes narrowed. "Well, that's not going to happen," he said firmly. "You're with me now, and I'm not going to let anyone come between us."

Elma's heart skipped a beat at Liam's words. She felt a rush of excitement and gratitude towards him.

But as she looked into Alex's determined eyes, Elma knew that she had a difficult decision to make. Would she choose the comfort and familiarity of her past, or the excitement and uncertainty of her future with Liam?

As Alex approached them, Elma could feel the tension building. Liam's grip on her hand tightened, a subtle sign of his protectiveness.

"Elma," Alex said, his voice smooth as silk. "It's great to see you. I've been thinking a lot about us, and I realize I made some mistakes. I'd love a chance to make it right."

Elma felt a pang of discomfort. She hadn't expected Alex to be so direct. "Alex, I appreciate your honesty, but I've moved on," she said, trying to sound firm.

Alex's eyes flicked to Liam, and for a moment, Elma thought she saw a flash of anger. "You're with him now?" he asked, his tone incredulous.

Liam stepped forward, his eyes locked on Alex. "That's right. Elma and I are together now. And we're happy."

Alex's face darkened, and for a moment, Elma worried about what might happen next. But then, Alex's expression smoothed out, and he smiled.

"I see," he said. "Well, I guess I'll just have to try harder to win her back."

Elma felt a shiver run down her spine. She didn't like the sound of that. "Alex, I think it's best if you just move on," she said firmly.

But Alex just chuckled. "Oh, I don't think so," he said. "I'm not giving up that easily."

As Alex walked away, Elma turned to Liam. "I don't know what to do," she said, feeling a sense of unease.

Liam pulled her close. "Don't worry," he said. "I'll take care of it. You're with me now, and I won't let anyone hurt you."

Elma felt a surge of gratitude towards Liam. She knew she could count on him to protect her. But as she looked into his eyes, she saw something there that made her heart skip a beat. Something that made her wonder if she was ready to face the challenges that lay ahead.
