“No, that’s not it,” I blurted out, waving my hands in front of me.
“Is that so? Are you perhaps feeling unwell?” Kyle pressed.
“I feel fine,” I assured him.
“Then, why do you seem so unlike yourself?” His disbelief was almost palpable as he stared at me in concern.
All of the boldness that had possessed me when I faced Adrian earlier disappeared. My hands twitched uncomfortably as I did my best to avoid his gaze. Unfortunately, Kyle seemed to interpret my discomfort as a sign of sickness and rested his large hand against my forehead before I had a chance to prepare myself.
“You do not appear to be running a fever,” he observed.
“I told you, I feel fine. You don’t need to fuss,” I whispered.
