Chapter 18 - Chapter 18

Because she wasn't a criminal, just a victim, the police didn't investigate her too deeply. Otherwise, she might have already been exposed. Even if her secret wouldn't have been revealed, the source of her sudden wealth would still be questioned.

Thinking about it carefully, she realized she had shown so many flaws during this time. Yet, she had still been feeling proud of herself.

She not only needed to earn enough profit in the dimensional shop, but she also had to have solid assets in the real world. It was time to put her plan of opening a store into action. Now she had the funds. All that was left was to find a location.

Even though she was in a bit of trouble right now and it wasn't convenient to go out for the next few days, she could use a real estate agent to find a shop. Once she made her requirements clear, plenty of people would help her search. She only needed to pay a fee.

If it were the old her, she would have been reluctant to pay that fee and would have rather searched on her own. But now things were different.

She needed to keep a low profile these days. After all, the accomplice of the thug still hadn't been caught. Tracy wouldn't risk her life just to save a bit of money.

After calling the agency, she waited for them to help her find a suitable store.

But not everything could be left to others. Some tasks still had to be done by herself, like finding suppliers. She couldn't rely on others for everything.

However, those things would have to wait until the danger passed. Besides, the poison in her body still hadn't been cured.

Even though Cris said he would find the antidote, the thug clearly didn't seem like someone trustworthy. Would he really hand over the antidote?

Tracy had to prepare for the worst. What if no antidote could be found? What would she do then?

While Tracy worried about her future, Cris was also feeling the pressure.

After torturing Huro for a while, he finally got a confession. Huro admitted that he didn't have any antidote.

Even though Cris had suspected this from the start, hearing it confirmed still made him anxious.

So, after learning that Huro didn't have an antidote, he rushed to the lab.

He had already sent a sample of the poison to the lab earlier, asking the old scientist there to work on an antidote.

Now almost a full day had passed. He was anxious to know if there was any progress.

"Captain Cris, you're here!" said Su Molly happily when she saw him.

"Is Master Zhao in? Has he made any progress on the antidote I sent him?" Cris asked.

"Teacher is still working on it. But he said the poison is very complex. He's figured out what it does, but making the antidote will still take a few days.

Captain Cris, you seem very worried. Who was poisoned?

Master Zhao said that once this poison enters the body, if the antidote isn't taken within three days, the person will die." Su Molly explained.

Cris's heart tightened. Tracy had already been poisoned for one day.

If they didn't get the antidote in three days, she would die. That meant there were only two days left.

Could the old man really make the antidote in time?

"I understand. You go back to work. I'll speak with Master Zhao myself." Cris said.

Su Molly watched Cris walk away in a rush. She opened her mouth, wanting to say something, but couldn't find the words.

She could only watch him leave. She stomped her foot in frustration but couldn't do anything else.

"Captain Cris really doesn't understand women at all." she muttered.

She was such a pretty girl standing right there, and he didn't even glance at her. He just asked his question and left.

But she knew in her heart that she wasn't worthy of him.

Cris came from an impressive background. She was just an ordinary researcher.

If it weren't for being Master Zhao's student, she might never have had the chance to talk to someone like Cris.

At that moment, Cris had no idea what Su Molly was thinking.

He went straight into the lab and found Master Zhao working.

"Old Zhao, how's the antidote coming along? You always brag about how skilled you are with medicine, yet you still haven't figured it out," Cris said.

"You brat! Only you dare to talk to me like that. Don't forget, I'm a famous medical expert.

Who said I can't make the antidote? It just takes time.

Do you think making an antidote is like picking cabbage? Something you can do in a few minutes?

If it were anyone else, even with more time, they might never be able to make one," the old man said, clearly annoyed.

"Old Zhao, someone's life is on the line here. Please take it seriously," Cris said.

"Who got poisoned? Are you so anxious because it's your girlfriend?" the old man asked.

"You're still so nosy. It's not my girlfriend—it's someone who once saved our family.

She got poisoned because of this whole mess. No matter what, I have to save her," Cris answered seriously.

"Alright, alright. Just watch me.

You know my skills. I'll have the antidote ready within today," Master Zhao said.

"If you manage to make it in time, I'll treat you to a drink," Cris promised.

"You said it! Don't you still have that 30-year-old brew your grandpa made? Don't go regretting your words later," the old man laughed.

"If you save her, I'll give you that wine.

And if I can find even better ones, I'll bring those too," Cris said without hesitation.

"That's what I like to hear. Just wait.

In half an hour, I'll have your antidote ready," the old man said, eyes sparkling.

Thinking about the wine he was about to receive, he looked full of energy.

He focused even more on his work.

Cris stood on the side with a tired look. He started to think maybe Old Zhao had tricked him on purpose. Just a moment ago, he said it would take one more day. But after hearing there was good wine involved, he suddenly only needed half an hour.

Still, if he could really make the antidote, giving him that wine would be worth it.

Old Zhao was always reliable when it came to medicine. He said half an hour, and exactly thirty minutes later, he handed Cris a clear bottle and said, "Cris, this antidote took me a lot of work to make. Don't forget the wine you promised. Bring it to me after you save her. Don't let me down."

"I won't forget you. After I help her, I'll bring the wine to you," Cris said.

Very soon, Cris arrived at Tracy's house. Tracy was really happy to see him. When she heard that he had found the antidote, she became even happier.

She had been worried that she would die from the poison. She didn't expect that Cris could actually find a cure for her.

"This is the antidote for your poison. Drink it quickly. Once you drink it, the poison will be gone," Cris said.

"I don't know how to thank you. If it weren't for you, I'd be dead for sure," Tracy said.

"This is something I should do. It's my job to protect people. You got poisoned because we made a mistake," Cris said.

He didn't tell Tracy how hard it was to get that antidote. If he didn't know Old Zhao, and if they weren't close, it would have been almost impossible.

Even though they didn't get any new clues about the antidote from the interrogation, they did get some other useful information from Huro.

Because of what Huro said, they were able to arrest many members of his group. That badly damaged the group's plans in the city.

It was a big success.

Huro's team failed to send their information out. Instead, they lost a lot of members.

It was a total loss for them.

After catching those people, Tracy should be safe now. Even if some got away, they wouldn't dare stay in the city any longer.

Cris looked at Tracy and said, "We're sorry you got caught up in this. But we already caught the bad guys and their team. You don't have to worry anymore."

"Really? I was still scared they would try to get revenge. I didn't even want to go outside. If it's safe now, then maybe it's fine to go out again," Tracy said.

"Of course. The rest of the bad guys were arrested by a team led by my co-worker. There's no mistake. But if you're still worried, you can call me. I'll go out with you and protect you," Cris said without thinking.

"That's too much trouble for you. I was just talking. Since they've been caught, I don't think I'm in danger anymore," Tracy said.

Tracy had been worried before. Since she couldn't go out, her small shop had to be put on hold.

Even though it was still raining in the other world, she guessed the rain would stop in the next two days.

She didn't want to lose too much time. People in the other world needed her.

She felt that running her shop wasn't just for money. She was also helping people survive.

Things were very hard to get over there. She knew she was just doing a small part, but even a small effort helped.

That's why she never tried to make more profit, even though gold and jewels didn't mean much anymore.

Even if she raised prices, people would still buy her food. But the prices were already high. If she made them higher, she would feel guilty.

"Even though you took the antidote, we don't know how well it worked. We should go to the hospital and get a full check-up. We need to make sure there's no poison left," Cris said.

"Wouldn't that bother you too much?" Tracy asked.

"Not at all. I'll drive you there myself. It won't take much time," Cris replied.

"Alright then. You've already helped me so much. It's almost dinnertime. Why don't you try my cooking? Let's eat first and then go," Tracy said.

"I'd love to taste your food," Cris smiled.

Tracy wasn't a top cook, but her food was colorful, tasty, and well-prepared.

Cris sat on the couch and watched Tracy moving around in the kitchen.

He didn't know why, but it felt warm and peaceful.

Tracy wanted to thank him properly, so she put in a lot of effort.

The dinner turned out really well. Cris couldn't stop saying how good it tasted.

"Girls who can cook are rare now. I didn't expect your cooking to be this good. Whoever marries you will be very lucky," Cris said.

"You're too kind. But everyone likes to hear nice words. I'll just take it as true," Tracy smiled.

After dinner, Cris drove Tracy to the hospital for a full check-up.

The results showed that there was no poison left in her body.

Old Zhao really had great skills. The antidote worked completely.

Because Cris was part of a special team, he had some special rights.

Normal people would have to wait days for results. But with Cris there, Tracy got her results right away.

When Tracy saw the clean report, she finally relaxed.

The poison was gone. She could now focus on reopening her small shop without any worries.
