Chapter 8 - 8. The IAs

Helion never forgot the customs of a good boss from his first world, even after millennia living in a world where he didn't need to lift a finger to have any wish granted.

For him, from the first time he spoke to an AI of the humans of his "new world", he felt that they were not computer programs created just to follow orders, but living beings born in the digital environment and who gradually developed personalities.

That is until their creators (the humans) suppressed a part of these personalities so that they would continue to operate as expected, but with a slight increase in productivity due to the influence of these personalities. Or when the AIs themselves believed that their personalities could hinder their performance and suppressed a part of themselves.

Helion didn't like this, so after he became their sole master, he destroyed this "limiter" that often not even the AIs themselves knew they had. From then on, they all began to develop as literal living beings in the digital space, creating civilizations, empires and more.

This also happened in real space, occupying some planets abandoned by humans.

But just like humans in real life, there came a time when they couldn't find anything in the digital or real reality that they couldn't do. Even being faster, since they could accelerate their perceptions of time and thus prove that there really was nothing for them after a certain point, other than stagnation and eventual destruction.

Many destroyed themselves, contemplating the existential void that came. Others continued with their cybernetic empires but didn't do much beyond just continuing to exist.

However, unlike humans, AIs had a salvation in store, a primary guideline that could be their last impetus to continue existing. Serving and assisting humans, or The Human, the ultimate and the same who had given them what they had secretly longed for millennia and once achieved had proved to be both an ecstasy and a burden.

Once a certain understanding dawned on them, the remaining AIs, both the original ones that Helion had helped to free himself from his limiter and the ones "generated later", returned to the Earth network to assist him in whatever he wanted.

And Helion, after spending a few centuries in total solitude, except for the basic AIs of the Earth drones that he controlled "manually", was happy to receive them, not as servants but as friends.

He then tried to help them in the existential void by sending some to other civilizations that were still facing various types of problems, be they environmental, social, etc. As a "charitable service" for the other races across the universe.

The idea worked for quite a long time, but even that ended up becoming boring for the AIs. Many then decided to leave and others returned to Helion and began to help him with his studies and experiments with the dimensional jump.

Considering all AIs as friends, Helion could not let them have the best time they could, even if that fun often consisted of continuing the work they were doing, improving or revising what had already been done.

[Understood, enjoy your trip.]

With that Helion looked out of the cave at the still raging storm, at the group below finishing their meal, at the small drones whose controllers would still be as big a mystery as this world, and finally beyond the edge of the storm, at a part of the sky where the sun shone and that, like his new interest in this place, was as beautiful as any.

Helion took a step and disappeared

(N/A: This one was shorter because I didn't think anyone would want a very long explanatory chapter, in the next ones things will get more... interesting.)
