Chapter 23 - Crimson Moon - Chapter 23

"Master Renan," Wendy said with a trembling voice.

She was having another vision of the future: One completely unlike any she had ever seen before.

The boy looked at her and noticed tears streaming down her face as she clutched her arm tightly.

"Wendy?"

"No... All I can see is death everywhere!" she replied, with despair in her voice.

"Renan, we need to hide..." she said, pulling the boy away from the window and yanking the curtains closed, not letting the crimson light enter the room.

"Hey... It's okay, calm down." The boy felt a creeping sense of dread, but he tried to stay strong, seeing how shaken she was.

Renan gently stroked the scared girl's head.

What's going on? he asked himself, trying to make sense of everything.

Where's Luna?

That feeling crawling across his skin was horrible, and it only got worse when he heard a scream from outside… followed by a roar.

He moved toward the window, trying to see what was happening.

Wendy stopped him, shaking her head with her eyes closed, trying to force the visions on her mind to stop.

"Wendy... What are you seeing?"

"Death... Demons... Vampires.... This moon is an invitation for creatures of the shadows to invade the human world."

The way she spoke felt empty.... Not even the girl fully understood the words that were leaving her lips.

Renan was taken by a twisted curiosity that made him want to pull the curtain open, step outside, and bathe in the crimson moonlight. If he were alone, the monster inside him would have forced him to leave and join in the screams and growling coming from the outside world.

Renan felt shivers all over his body. The sound of screams was growing louder, and now he could also hear gunshots and the wailing of police and ambulance sirens. It was as if the apocalypse had begun.

There had been no warning, nothing at all. Only chaos was about to unfold...

The boy's phone started ringing, and he quickly turned to the couch, grabbing the device and seeing it was a call from his girlfriend.

"Luna? Where are you!?"

"Renan, I'm safe. Right now, I just need you to listen to me."

Renan felt more at ease upon hearing his girlfriend's voice and realized she truly didn't seem to be in any danger.

Still, he wanted to know where she was.

"Are you with Wendy?"

"Yes. I'm with her at your apartment. I thought you'd be here when I arrived, I..."

"Okay, you two can't leave the apartment under any circumstances, I will arrive there soon." Luna said as she walked through the city.

"Okay... But be careful." Renan said just before the call was ended by Luna.

The girl was using her magic to stay hidden, and even with people screaming around her, she didn't seem scared at all—in fact, she wore a faint smile on her face.

A group of people ran past where Luna was, fleeing from a nightclub. Moments later, a true monster emerged from inside, using its claws to tear apart part of the front door frame.

The creature had a humanoid appearance, but its body was covered in thick fur. It had claws and a snout like a wolf's.

The truth was that it had once been human, now transformed into a werewolf.

It wasn't so different from how Renan had been turned into a vampire. Luna had used a blood crystal for his transformation, but the crystals she had used in the spell that initiated the Crimson Moon were of a different kind.

The ritual of the Crimson Moon had a specific purpose: To transform people with magical affinity, granting them powers and their real forms.

The problem was that the sudden transformation caused their most intense desires to surface, and without guidance, they ended up being consumed by the inner beast—one that sought to fulfill their darkest urges.

Luna felt a pang of guilt watching the werewolf act out of control. Nearby police officers drew their weapons and opened fire on the creature.

The werewolf roared in pain from the bullets, then charged at one of the officers, impaling him with its claws while tearing the arm off another with its fangs.

Everyone in that city was a possible victim now.

Luna, however, couldn't let the guilt take over her mind.

"Don't think about it, Luna. Some will suffer, however it's for the greater good!" She thought to herself.

The werewolf noticed her standing in the shadows and bared its fangs.

The monster could feel the magical energy radiating from her, and like a frightened animal, it turned and fled, chasing after other potential victims. If she were just an ordinary human, the creature would have charged at her without hesitation.

Luna started walking again, going down the road that led back to her apartment, which wasn't too far from where she already was.
