The King's gaze fell upon Albert. "Does this belong to you?" he inquired, gesturing to the grand mansion and the wonders in its backyard.
Albert, with a proud smile, responded, "All of this belongs to my son. He is the one who created the inventions you see."
The King's attention shifted to Adam. "Introduce yourself, young man."
"I am Adam," he began, adhering to their agreed-upon cover story, "an inventor from a land far from here. I've recently reunited with my family and chosen to reside in this town."
The King laughed heartily. "With a mind as great as yours, I personally welcome you to our kingdom!" Guards then presented Adam with a prepared gift and declared him a noble. Adam reluctantly accepted, acutely aware of the potential repercussions if his true identity were revealed.
A Royal Audience and a Grave Secret
The King then dismissed everyone else, his face turning serious. A knock sounded at the door. "Come in," the King commanded. To Adam's shock, Edward, the Guild Master, entered.
"My spy has been watching everything that has happened," the King stated, his gaze piercing, "and has informed me of an anomaly in our kingdom." Edward, equally surprised, bowed deeply. "Rise, Edward, and take a seat. I understand what has transpired, and I do not blame you for your actions. Do not worry."
The King then looked at Adam. "This young man reminds you of the hero, doesn't he? Your old friend."
"Yes," Edward exclaimed, "he shows himself to be a humble person who thinks of others."
The King's lips curved into a sly smile. "You should have known better, Edward. I would have accepted him into our kingdom regardless." His gaze then hardened as he fixed on Adam. "You're an otherworlder."
Adam's heart hammered. He nervously nodded, dreading the potential danger to his family. "Sir, if I may speak," Adam said, his voice humble yet firm. The King nodded permission. "My powers, I do not wish to use them for greed or destruction. I hope you understand my point of view. I cherish people's lives, yes. And I would also cherish the lives of people from other kingdoms. All of them share equal value to live freely, away from wars and destruction."
He continued, "I hope that I would not be used for wars, and I hope to be given a chance to live a peaceful life among the residents here. However, you can call on me if there is a threat to the kingdom. I would protect this kingdom, as my family are now residents here."
The King listened intently, then a genuine smile spread across his face. "Just as I expected. That is why Edward is protecting you. I am relieved and glad to know you are sensible with the powers you possess. I accept the terms of your condition and welcome you to enter the castle anytime you like. Edward is one of my most trusted individuals in this kingdom; for him to hide you must mean he truly cares for both you and the kingdom. I trust his judgment and will not pressure you further. However, you must allow me and my nobles to try your inventions."
Adam returned the King's smile. "I hope you enjoy them, sir."
Edward rushed to hug Adam tightly, a silent prayer of thanks on his lips. "Now, with the King's favor, you don't have to worry about your life or your family," he whispered. "The King will take good care of them, even if you're not here."
Adam felt a profound sense of relief, knowing his family would be safe while he embarked on his search for Emily.
Royal Revelry and a New Life
The King, escorted by his retinue, was led to the backyard. The royalty and noble children delighted in the waterpark, with Alyssa and Alynna proudly playing alongside them.
Albert and Helena spent time in the sauna with the King, Queen, and other nobles, engaging in easy conversation.
After a long period of enjoyment, the King prepared to depart, but not before sending royal servants and guards to attend the mansion. He presented Albert and Helena with another bag of gold, instructing them to come to the castle the next day with the entire family.
Adam, exhausted but content from entertaining such important guests, retreated into the house with his family. Looking at their joyful, laughing faces, he felt a deep sense of fulfillment. The maids swiftly began cleaning and preparing dinner, which the family enjoyed together.
The next day would undoubtedly bring more surprises and, likely, more unwanted attention to Adam's new, unique life in Damarsh.
