The call comes at 11:47 PM on a Tuesday night. Gabriel Donovan's voice carries through his cousin Ethan Pierce's speakerphone with crystal clarity, unaware that his every word is being recorded by one of my surveillance teams.
"Half a month, Ethan. Half a goddamn month, and I've barely held her hand."
I lean back in my leather chair, listening to the conversation from my penthouse office. The city sprawls below me, unaware that two spoiled rich boys are about to make the biggest mistake of their lives.
"You're pathetic," Ethan's laughter crackles through the speakers. "I had her moaning my name after three dates. What's your excuse?"
"She's different now. More cautious." Gabriel's frustration bleeds through his voice. "She keeps talking about her husband, about how much she loves him."
