Ava froze, caught off guard by Liam's words.
Two seconds passed.
Instead of responding directly, she said quietly, "Make sure to close the windows before bed. Don't forget to pull the blanket up at night. Eat breakfast on time—your stomach's always been sensitive. And when you're out drinking, don't do it on an empty stomach."
Liam's heart sank.
This was her gentle way of turning him down.
He let out a hollow, self-deprecating laugh.
When he first mentioned divorce, there had been a bit of testing in his tone—testing whether she truly loved him.
But when she brought it up, she meant it.
Women—they seemed soft, easy to coax, but once they made up their minds, there was no turning back. Not even with a team of wild horses.
Feigning calm, Liam said, "You too. Take care of yourself. Avoid cold water. I'm not around anymore, so ask your mom to keep an eye on you."
"Thanks."
Her polite, distant tone twisted something deep in his chest.
