As Lily Turner anticipated, Sophia Wood did call her for something, but she wouldn't tell her over the phone.
"Come home tonight, I have something to discuss with you." Sophia didn't specify what it was, just vaguely mentioned she needed to talk.
"Tonight?"
Tonight, Easton Holmes was supposed to take her to a party, and Lily suddenly felt conflicted. She had already promised him, so would it be inappropriate to also promise her mom?
"What? You're not free tonight?" Even over the phone, Sophia clearly caught Lily's hesitation.
"Yeah, I really do have plans tonight." Lily didn't hide it from her mom on the other end, speaking honestly, "Mom, can it wait until tomorrow?"
She asked with little confidence and wasn't holding out much hope.
Just as Lily expected, Sophia didn't give her any leeway and firmly refused, "Your plans can wait, tonight's family matters are very important."
The emphasis on "very important" was strong, highlighting the significance of the matter.
