Chapter 9 - Chapter 9: Hidden Compartment

Ivy nodded, her face still expressionless, as she stared at Aunt June with a complex expression on her face.

Aunt June's eyes fell on the two figures lying in the living room, and she paused. For a brief moment, shock flashed through her eyes before she looked at Ivy.

Isla, who had watched all the minute expressions on Aunt June's face, was delighted and hurriedly said,

"See! She has transformed into a monster today! Help us! Please."

Aunt Jun pursed her lips before walking out of the apartment.

Just as Isla thought Aunt June was going to shout for help, she heard Aunt June say,

"What do you expect from her? Even a rabbit bites when cornered. Ivy dear... take care. No will interrupt you."

With that, Aunt June closed the door from the outside.

Isla was stunned and started to bang the door, however, no one answered. Instead, Ivy's chilling laugh echoed in Isla's ears,

"Now... now... what are you going to do? My dear sister?"

"Ahhhhhhh!"

...............

Ivy dropped the whip on the ground as she looked at three people who were lying on the floor, and walked toward her room.

Calling the room was a generosity when it could only fit a child-sized makeshift bed. It had a mirror and a calendar.

Sitting on her bed, Ivy thought about her future plans.

She wasn't going to waste the opportunity given to her.

"First, I should think of a way to horde supplies," Ivy muttered.

Though 99% of the supplies were already taken away, Ivy decided to try her luck. With her superpowers, she hardly needs to worry about the zombies.

Grumble.

Feeling hungry, Ivy lay on the bed.

All three Ravencroft family members had fainted, but their intelligent minds still worked for them.

In her two lifetimes, she never knew where they had hidden the supplies. As strange as it seemed, whenever Ivy entered the kitchen, it was always empty.

Their cleverness was the reason why Ivy never doubted... that they weren't her real parents.

............

The next Ivy was woken up by the loud noises outside. Someone was knocking on her door.

And it didn't Ivy much of a brain cell to know that the person was Damian.

God knows why he wasn't present in the home yesterday, but now that he had returned and he would definitely blabber more nonsense or worse, beat her, using his brute force.

As much as Ivy wanted to beat him up, the reality was that her current body was too weak compared to Damian's.

Not wanting to deal with those blood sucking leeches, Ivy looked at the window.

There was a risk in jumping off from the 3rd floor, however, it was nothing compared to jumping from a 51-floor building to another one while trying to run away from zombies.

In a swift motion, Ivy climbed out of the small window in her room. With the water pipe, Ivy skillfully climbed down.

The moment Ivy reached downstairs, some of the zombies looked in Ivy's direction; however, as if Ivy was invisible to them, they one by one looked away.

"First stop is a clean bathhouse... I need to freshen up." Ivy thought and soon reached the nearest spa.

Once inside, Ivy saw a few zombies roaming inside. With ease, Ivy kicked the zombies at their napes and sent their heads flying away.

The nape of the neck was the weakness of Level 1 zombies.

5 minutes later.

Ivy checked all the rooms and once she was sure that no zombies had left, she cracked their heads one by one.

All of them were empty.

"So the zombie crystals... haven't started to form yet?" Ivy muttered. She had guessed so, however, she was still a bit disappointed.

"Guess I should take a shower first." She muttered softly.

Walking into the bathroom of the spa, Ivy took a quick shower. The silver lining was that the waters weren't contaminated yet.

Just as she was putting on her clothes, she saw the wooden box. Due to the various events of the previous night, she hardly had the time to think about it.

"Hm... maybe it has some kind of mechanism and the ring is hidden inside it?" Ivy questioned.

She opened the box, took out the silk clothes, and knocked on the wooden base inside.

Thunk. Thunk.

Ivy was surprised. It was hollow.

Without hesitation, she threw the wooden box hard on the ground, however, it didn't break. Not wanting to give, Ivy continued to experiment with different metals.

Screwdriver, hammer, metal rods, and even scissors. But all her attempts were futile.

"No... it is protected by a mechanism... I guess." Ivy thought and started to inspect the wooden box.

After 5 minutes or so, Ivy noticed that the right corner of the box had a slight color difference.

She pressed it hard, and soon the corner cracked. Hidden underneath was a button, which Ivy clicked.

Pish.

The box hissed faintly as a hidden compartment slid open, revealing a dark velvet pouch nestled inside.

Ivy's fingers closed around it, cautious yet curious.

She loosened the drawstrings and poured the contents into her palm.

However, what came out was completely different from what she expected.
