The room was completely silent as they let the tension dissipate little by little, when Bethany's phone rang, slicing through it like a knife.
"Hey , Mom. What's up?" She asked, leaving the table and going to sit on a sofa in the living room.
"Oh! She asked me what's up, Ray." Jen teased from the other side, talking to Raymond.
"She's a big girl now. Let her." Ray said.
"Dad, I'm not an adult. I'm still your baby."
"Oh no, love. You belong to three men now. Not me, not anymore." Ray reasoned, she could hear him chew something crunchy.
"Oh okay then. Why did you call if I'm not yours any longer?" She retorted smiling, knowing she had him cornered now.
"Uhhh.. let's just say, we decided to check in on what used to be ours." Ray chimed.
"Oh honey, please speak for yourself. She still belongs to me. Now, tomorrow, forever." Jen deadpanned.
"Awwnn, Mom. That's so sweet." Beth cooed.
