Immediately I stepped out of Xerxes' hospital room, I noticed something dark in the atmosphere. My heart beats began to pick up at a faster pace and the only thing I could think of was Aelia. She was in trouble. I looked at the bench I had left Clarissa on. She was also nowhere to be found. I turned around, about to enter Xerxes' room when I bumped into him. "Sorry, I felt something wrong with my mate so I came out." He spoke. "Me too." I also said and we looked at each other. Realizing the depth of the situation, we began to look around.
We followed their scents and they led us outside. Just as we got outside, a black car drove past us and it reeked off vanilla and lilies. Aelia. "It's that car." Not caring that we were in public, Xerxes shifted, causing people to start screaming. That was the least of our problems, by the way. Energy burst within me, causing me to ran at an inhumane speed. I ran past Xavier and reached the car. I jumped and landed on the car. The driver started to drive recklessly, trying to get me off. Growling, I carefully crawled towards the drivers seat.
I yanked the car door off and pulled the man out, throwing him at Xerxes. He wasted no time to tear him up with his sharp teeth. Thankfully, we hadn't reached the high way yet. I got in the driver's seat and turned the car around. I drove back to the hospital. Xerxes turned back into his human self and entered my car with Clarissa, who was unconscious, in his arms. I put Aelia in the passenger's seat. She was also unconscious. I quickly drove home. When we arrived, mom and dad looked at us in shock. "What's wrong?" Mom asked, worried. "Someone tried to kidnap them." I replied. Mom gasped as we took the girls to their rooms.
I needed answers. All my life, I have been living under the impression that I was their son. I found my parents in the hall. "We need to talk." I glared at my father particularly. Dad looked at his wife then turned to look at me. "What is it?" He asked. I didn't waste time to ask him, "how am I not related to you in any way?" I watched as blood drained from his face. This made me understand why he acted normal about Xerxes being a werewolf. Dad knew who I was. Maybe that was even one of the reasons why he didn't attack me for kissing his daughter like Xavier did. He knew everything and it wouldn't surprise me if mom knew too after all, they nurtured me together.
"Did you think I would hate you if you had told me who I was? I don't know my biological parents but I will certainly not forget or ignore you if I get to find them. How did I end up here? From Ottawa to Albany is not really a small journey. Did you steal me? Did my parents give me up? Did you find me or they brought me here?" I asked, eager to know. Dad looked at me for a while and sighed, patting the seat beside on his left side of the couch. I sat down.
"I had just gotten married to Calista. That rainy night was supposed to be our wedding night. We were about to go to bed when the door bell rang. Trust me, we nearly thought it was some kind of prank or some thieves. This area of the city was pretty quiet at the time. People had not yet discovered how peaceful this place could be. The knock was repeated, the second time louder and I decided to go check out who it could be at such an ungodly hour. My wife and I opened the door only to find a helpless man with a bundle of joy in his arms. He looked like he was in a hurry to leave, probably because people were chasing him. "Sir, I am so sorry but I really need your help. I am running out of time and I really need you to help me protect my son." He spoke the very moment I opened the door. He looked scared. Filled with compassion, I looked at my wife to ask if she agreed. Thankfully, she did and I asked the man to come in. The man stepped inside and after getting him a hot cup of tea, my wife took the baby from him. Trust me, he looked like he would start crying at anytime. I asked him about his situation, curious about how he ended up at our doorstep.
"My name is Ares. This is my son, Cyrus. We are werewolves, thus, half human and half wolf. We are from Ottawa in Canada. We're from a small town isolated from human's sight. Tonight was supposed to be my son's first birthday party but while the ceremony was on going, rogues attacked the place. These rogues were led by my tyrant elder brother, Pious. My wife, my mate was able to escape with our son while I was fighting the rogues. Sadly, she has been killed. I found my son in the woods while I was looking for her. I had felt our bond break the moment she died. The woods led me to this town. I know my brother. He will stop at nothing to kill me and even if he doesn't succeed, I will still die soon because we wolves cannot survive without our mates. Our mates are our better halves. You cannot separate us. Once we have had something to do with our mates, living without them is impossible. As I sit here with you, I am slowly dying so I cannot take my son with me. He has a life ahead of him. Who knows? Maybe he might also find his mate here. The necklace around his neck is going to do two things; first, cover his scent from wolves until he is old enough to fight for himself, so you guys are totally out of danger, no one will come looking for him here. Secondly, it will lead him to his people once it's time. I have to go. Please take care of him like he's yours." He didn't wait for us to make him stay. Two days later, we heard on the news that a man had been found dead in Albany. We were sad about that and we decided to keep you as our first son. Six years later, my wife got pregnant. We didn't even know it as she didn't show any signs but for some reason, you loved lying on her stomach and rubbing it. After she had gone to the hospital for her normal week check up, that's when we found out that she was pregnant. You brought fortune to our home, Cyrus. Just a week after we had received you, a contract I had fighting for for the Russians to sign was signed and my career began to fall in alignment. One good thing after the other. We never went bankrupt. Those ideas you used to give me on how to manage my finance were very beneficial. I even got to find out that my own best friend was stealing my money. We were happier when Xavier and Aelia were born. You immediately took a liking towards Aelia. At first, I thought you just liked your little sister but as both of you grew, you became inseparable.
I tried to separate you two but it was already too late. I wanted to even take Aelia to her grandparents back in Mexico City. It didn't work because when we got to the airport, we were only carrying bags and a flipping doll while you had taken my daughter to your room. Finally, I came to agree to the fact that you two were mates so I couldn't separate you. That's why I no longer cared about how much time Aelia spent with you. The day I had seen her in your clothes, I was fed up with you two rubbing it in my face that I could never succeed in separating you that was why I shouted at her. I didn't expect you to get angry and try to slap me. I would have probably ended up like Xavier.
All this while, I didn't tell you about your identity because of Aelia. I didn't want her married or pregnant so soon but now that it's almost time for you to take your place as King, I cannot keep it from you. I didn't know you were the King until Xerxes told me."
Wow. I stared at my parents in shock. Even if they weren't my biological parents, they were forever going to be my parents. Standing up, I walked to them and wrapped my arms around them. "I love you, mom and dad. I am sorry about Xavier but he deserved it." I said to them after pulling away. Dad glared at me and gritted out, "asshole." I grinned and stood, rushing upstairs to my mate while they laughed at me.
