What was even more cruel was the fact that, at that moment, Lilah's sight was restored.
How it happened, she had no idea. And the novel never said anything about it either. But it was at the point of her death, in the middle of vampires who were feasting on her, that she got to see the colors of the world.
It was dark. It was red, bloody red. It was frightening.
Her blood was spilled everywhere and dripping on the bodies of these blood-sucking creatures.
Their face, lips, and hands were all stained with blood. Her blood
Her eyes were opened to a world like that.
Lilah watched while she took her last breath, her beating heart in the palms of those cruel vampires and she cursed her family for doing this to her to save their beloved daughter.
Just thinking about the date the original Lilah passed through, Lilah couldn't help but shudder in fear.
Would she be able to go through that same thing? It was awful.
Every cell of her body began to tremble and she bit her bottom lip. She wasn't confident that she could walk into that den with her own two legs, knowing what awaited her.
She just couldn't do it. So, maybe the best option now was to simply take her own life.
She stood up, her mind corroded by fear of the contents she had dismissed for a long time. But then, she paused.
Something was off.
If Dawn was certain that their father was going to send her off to the vampires then she wouldn't suggest that she jump off the window and die.
Dawn was the kind of person who would rather watch Lilah suffer than die a quick death.
Lilah took in a deep breath and then released it. She needed to use her head and not fall for her sister's tricks anymore. This was so like her.
"No," Lilah said to Dawn and Dawn's smile fell. "I'm going to hear from father. I... I can't take my own life just for something like this." She got up to her feet. "Thank you for worrying about me, sister. But I'll manage on my own."
Dawn frowned bitterly and then clicked her tongue. Why was she being so stubborn?
Hearing Dawn click her tongue, Lilah was certain that this was a scheme.
Ah, she almost fell for her scheme and took her own life because she was scared. She needed to be careful and get away from Dawn.
Dawn looked towards the window and then a wicked smirk played on her lips. If she wasn't going to do it on her own then she would help her.
"Don't blame me, Lilah. I'm just doing this for your own good." Dane said and then grabbed her arm, pulling her towards the window.
"What are you doing?" She struggled to take her hand off. "Let go. Let..."
"I'm saving you the trouble, sister. Say hi to Mom for me." Dawn maliciously said with a smirk on her lips and then pushed Lilah through the window.
It was an instant but Dawn saw something like a flash of light. She didn't understand. She normally couldn't see; not even the brightest light could have an impact on her sight but at that moment... She definitely saw the flash.
'Is this it?'
She wondered.
'Is this what they mean when they say your life flashes before your eyes in the moment of your death?'
She didn't know why but it looked like the plot would continue as it had been created.
She... Had to die on this day no matter what.
'I guess this means I can't defy fate no matter what I do.'
She braced herself for the pain she would feel when she finally hit the ground and had her head splattered to little bits, but the moment she landed, she didn't feel any pain.
In fact, it was comfortable, and the first thing her hand felt was hair that was as wild as fur, and her other hand felt the fabric of a suit.
She was able to recognize that much but whose was it?
Did someone save her?
Her hand reached further and then felt their chin up to their lips.
'Oh no, did I kill someone when I fell?' She wondered. 'No, I can still hear their heartbeat. Their...' she took a look at their heart.
It was pure. It was golden.
A man with a good heart.
It reminded her of the man she saw after the accident. The one who had been driving so fast that he hit their car.
Was this the same person?
She didn't think so but maybe more than one person could have this same golden glow.
The golden glow was beautiful and it made her heart race for some reason.
'What... What is this feeling?' She thought, her hand roaming the face of this person. 'My heart won't calm down.'
And the heart of this person beneath her wouldn't calm down either. It was as if the more her heart raced, the more his own raced.
She should probably call for help since it was thanks to him that she was able to survive that fall, but... She couldn't get up.
She wanted to feel his face more.
What did he look like, the man with the golden heart? What was the color of his eyes and his hair? How were his eyebrows? Were they busy? Were they perfectly carved?
She found herself curious about this person and softly roamed through his face with her gentle hands that were still bandaged.
And then, she began to feel him trembling.
It was as if he was getting worse.
"I'm sorry, I'm so sorry." She apologized, her eyes tearing up. "You must be hurt from cushioning my fall. I'll get help. I mean, I need to get help, but I don't know the way to the front door by heart, and I don't have my cane, so please, hang in there a bit." She pressed her forehead on his chest.
He had such broad shoulders and a large chest. Judging from how she was on top of him, he was fairly larger than she was.
Well, any man would be larger than her since she, even if she had never looked at herself in the mirror, knew how petite she was because she was the same size and higher as her twin sister, Dawn.
And Dawn was mentioned to be a petite girl in the novel.
"Please, don't die." She said to him, her voice shaking in worry and fear but then, his trembling stopped.
She was scared that he had died so she pressed her ear on his chest but luckily, he was still breathing and so she breathed out in relief, only to hear him speak.
"Excuse me?"
Hearing him speak gave Lilah a fright, and she immediately lifted her head from his chest, but her hands were still pressed on his chest.
Then, she felt his hand on her waist, which caused her to flinch.
What was he doing?
"I wanted to ask this a while ago but... How did you fall through the window?"
"What?"
